Meet Our Staff

CJ Reeves - Executive Director

Executive Director

Christie (known as CJ) brings a wealth of expertise to her position as Executive Director. Deeply experienced in senior housing and also a nurse, she has worked in communities ranging in size for as small as 42 to as large as 450. An animal lover - and supporter for the Humane Society - she treasures her English Bulldogs. Now enjoying the wonderful opportunities in Jacksonville, she has in the past lived also in locales as diverse as Louisiana, Colorado, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Specifically attracted to Anthem Lakes because of its park-like setting and the careful attention to design and vision, she has three children who have now followed her passion to serve in senior housing communities.

Don Burns - Environmental Services Director

A native of Rhode Island, Don was commissioned in 1982 , became a Naval Aviator, and then continued to serve our nation for a total of 30 years in a variety of capacities, including as an Operations Officer, Maintenance Officer, Officer in Charge, and Commanding Officer. During that period he competed a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

After retiring in 2012, he joined a large CCRC in Jacksonville (near the famed Mayo Clinic) with oversight as environmental director for independent, assisted, memory care, and nursing homes properties and residents. Subsequently, he joined Anthem Lakes and oversees all aspects of facility maintenance, inspections, contracts, landscaping, upkeep, cleanliness and laundry. A quote says it best: “Every I look forward to serving residents at Anthem Lakes”.

Karey Cox
Director of Dining Services

Dining is more than food! Karey brings to Anthem Lakes the assurance of a memorable dining experience, with skills honed by his prior positions with Disney including at the famous Le Cellier and the Akershus Royal Dining Hall. True, the goal is not a "magical" dining experience, but some of the same elements apply: great taste, fine presentation, good selection, friendly service -- with his staff knowing the name and preferences of each resident -- which is, after all, even better. In additional to the dining venues, the bistro is also special, well worth a visit. Come see!

Ann Highlander
Director of Sales

Ann brings a remarkable depth of experience to team Anthem Lakes. Not only is she a licensed nurse, her immediately prior work with a leading home healthcare agency creates deep expertise to the process of identifying needs, for the senior but also for their loved ones. Importantly, this includes the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams of third party professionals. She exemplifies a passion for quality, compassionate care. Even if only seeking information, she is a tremendous resource for persons considering assisted living or memory care solutions

Denise Macchia - Memory Care Director

A life-long Florida resident, Denise planned for a career in healthcare, earning in 2009 her degree in health care administration followed later (after gaining direct work experience in assisted living) with an MBA. Having truly worked ‘up the ladder’, her first senior housing position was as a server, followed by an administrative internship that allowed her wide exposure -- where she confirmed her passion for working with memory care residents and their families.

That experience provides context for her praise of how special Creekside memory care is at Anthem Lakes. A natural setting, circular interior hallways for walking, a great outdoor space, a high staffing ratio and more -all important, but another critical difference is her ability to create and sustain in staff a caring heart environment. Denise emphasizes the importance of working with families and their loved ones to discover the unique interests of each resident. Also, for family members, she reaches out with eduction and understanding, including the offer of providing a ‘virtual dementia’ experience which powerfully imparts information not fully conveyed in any other way.

Brittney McSwain - Sales Assistant

Brittney is a recent graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she majored in history with a minor in diplomacy. Having had widely varied retail experiences, she was attracted to senior housing in part because of a passion for service -- though not incidentally it provides a hands-on opportunity for diplomacy in helping senior and their adult children in understanding and negotiating what might otherwise seem a difficult life transition. While still a student of world affairs, she brings a caring and compassionate heart to Anthem Lakes, where in her words “I love the people”.

Erica Nelson - Memory Care Director

Erica Nelson, Business Office Manager at Anthem Lakes fell in love with seniors by chance. Erica graduated from the University of North Florida with her bachelors degree in Public Administration and Public Health in 2013 and found her way to the senior living industry via a colleague's referral. Shortly after graduation she took a position as a Business Office Manager at Wyndham Lakes, a 245 bed Assisted Living and Memory care community. After servering as the BOM for three years she was promoted to the Assistant Executive Director position and oversaw the community during an ownership change. During her 5 years at the community, Erica grew a passion for caring and loving for the elderly, especially those in memory care. Erica has extensive knowledge of both operations and clinical regulations. She holds high expectations and standards when it comes to caring for seniors. Erica is as an ALZ certified trainer and FL ALF CORE certified.

Nina Newman
Director of Nursing

Famous for her cheerfulness, Nina brings to life the Anthem Lakes philosophy of care giving called HEARTS: Having Exceptional Aspirations, Raising The Standards. Her embodiment indelibly imparts to her staff members that for our residents we bring both care and caring. This includes the practice of having 24 hour nurse staffing on site, not merely on call. With Nina, smiles are part of the protocol!

Beverly Nzuzu - Lifestyle Director

Lifestyle Director

Beverly’s background includes over 20 years of working with seniors -- and she is the 2006 recipient of the International Award for Resident Education presented by Senator Bob Dole on behalf of the American Association of Service Coordinators. Attracted to Anthem Lakes in part because of the opportunity to exercise creativity in enriching resident lives, she speaks with heartfelt enthusiasm about the joy of being able to really ‘be making a difference’. Two of her sons presently serve in the Armed Forces. Her hobbies include sewing and fishing -- as well as writing, with her first book in progress dealing with memory loss and titled Dying to Remember.
